Karlobag


Karlobag is situated on a coastal road route that leads from Rijeka to Dubrovnik, under the mountain of Velebit, which impressively marks that part of the coastal line. From Senj to Starigrad, on a stroke of approximately 100 kilometres, Karlobag is the only bigger settlement. That kind of environment offers unique characteristics, climatic and landscapal, so for the one who "falls in love" in Karlobag, there is no alternative but to come on a vacation each year.


Karlobag, as well as the entire zone of the channel under the mountain of Velebit, excels in immaculate clean sea, even with wellsprings of water. It is ideal for those who want a vacation on sea, but suffer from the summer heats, because it is enough to take the road to Plitvice and after 20 kilometers come to a mountain climate and refreshment even in the hottest periods. Except for the trekking, there are possibilities of many other sports: indoor soccer, basketball, tennis, bowling, volley ball, mini golf, diving, sailing.


There are few ancient monuments in Karlobag that had to be mentioned: monastery, the parish church of St. Joseph built in 1713. during the time of Leopold I. with architectural elements from the 18th century, and church of St. Mother of God regretful, while on the hill above the Karlobag there are ruins of medieval fortress "Fortica", and the remains of the church of St. Charles of (Boromej) built in 1615. Karlobag is only 100 km away from the Plitvice lakes, so it is inescapable to plan one day to visit the nicest park in Croatia.
