Silba island


Silba - island of hikers. Everybody will confirm you that fact, even driving a bike is forbidden, and tractors can be driven in supply needs, only during the time of one hour before and after the boat arrives in one of two harbours Zalic or Mul. Silba - island of ship masters and sailors. They say that over 100 ship masters came from there, and the legend and the tower of Marinic in the middle of the island Silba, witness the love of one ship master Petar Marinic who built it and today's name is "tower of love". People also say that Silba is the "gate of Dalmatia" because of it's position.


Settlement is situated on a firmly part of the island, and looking from the air, island has got a form of number eight. There are 250 inhabitans, and that number increases in the summer season, since the island is a favorite destination for all those in search for peace and relaxation. Accommodation is possible only in private apartments and houses. Sea is rich in fish, and for dolphin fans, this is the place where you will easily meet them. Beside Mljet this island is the most forested island in Croatia, and also you will find coneys and pheasants.


Coasts of the island are nice, with pebbled bays and hidden sand beaches, ideal for families with children, and also with infrastructure for young people, Sutorisce beach, with the volleyball playground on the sand, basketball and football. It is connected with Zadar, Rijeka and Mali Losinj, and the nearest mainland harbour is Zadar.
